SC looking at whether to publicise Rulings
PETALING JAYA: The Securities Commission (SC) is thinking about disclosing its rulings on major decisions relating to the Takeover Code, industry sources said.

“Some markets such as Hong Kong provide the market with the full ruling by their regulators. The idea of disclosing rulings here has been talked about before but it is surfacing again,” said an investment banking source.

If such a move is implemented, then it would cover decisions made by the SC like the recent one regarding Eastern & Oriental Bhd (E&O) where the regulator had to decide whether Sime Darby Bhd would have been required to make a general offer for all the shares of the former company.

In fact, industry sources say it is the E&O/Sime Darby case that is prompting the regulator to revisit the idea of making its rulings public.
